Nobody’s perfect... But we’re pretty close
For league table results, City of Sunderland College has come first in two out of the three categories in the city, both for points gained by students for each exam entered and for value added, which measures how well students have progressed. It has come second in all three categories in comparison to colleges in the Tyne and Wear area.
Dave Riddell, Head of Student Recruitment at the College said:
“For me, the most important league table result has to be value added, as this measures how far the student has improved and whether they have met their potential. It is also a reflection on the quality of the teaching and learning received and the relative effectiveness of an institution. Our score, in my view, is a fantastic achievement.”
Value added uses a benchmark score of 1000 to measure how well students have progressed from GCSE to A-level or their equivalent. For schools and colleges who achieve 1000, this shows that the value they add to a student is in line with their expectations and that such students have realised their potential. Scores above this figure mean students, on average, have actually overachieved!
