In the City

From its modern, bustling centre with relaxing green spaces to the stunning coastal scenery, Sunderland has so much to see and do. Add to that a range of outstanding heritage, cultural and sporting attractions and you’ll find studying in Sunderland has everything you need.

Shopping and Eating Out

Sunderland has a range of shopping options, from the boutiques of Sunniside and Blandford street to the redeveloped Bridges Shopping Centre, home to all the major high street brands. And when it comes to eating out you’ll find your favourite restaurants alongside unique local eateries offering cuisine ranging from budget meals to five star fine dining experiences.

Nightlife and Entertainment

The North East is famous for its nightlife and Sunderland is no exception. With a range of nightclubs to suit all tastes, pubs and bars for all scenes, as well as a casino, cinema, Empire Theatre and bowling alley, there’s always something to do after a hard day’s study. And if you’re after a more cultural affair, Sunderland has a range of museums including the National Glass Centre and the Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens to further stimulate your interests.

Sport

As the home of Sunderland AFC, Sunderland has a passion for sport rarely rivalled. It has the largest Olympic swimming complex between Leeds and Edinburgh at the Sunderland Aquatic Centre and a range of outdoor and indoor fitness facilities thanks to a huge selection of local parks and gyms. And let’s not forget Sunderland College’s own Goals all weather football centre at our Bede campus. Alternative sports are also catered for with an artificial ski slope and purpose built skate park just outside the city centre at Silksworth.
