Situated in the heart of the North East, Sunderland is a great base to sample and enjoy the many sights and attractions of the region.
A short journey North will find you surrounded by the picturesque coastline of Northumberland featuring the historic island of Lindisfarne and Alnwick Castle, the home of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films. The region is also home to the World Heritage sites of Durham Cathedral and Castle and Hadrian’s Wall.
For the passionate shoppers, the North East is home to the MetroCentre, the largest indoor mall in Europe with over 340 shops and leisure facilities including; the UK’s only IMAX between Glasgow and Bradford.
The North East also has plenty to offer for culture and music fans, with the iconic NewcastleGateshead quayside featuring both the Baltic Art Gallery and Sage Gateshead music venue. Fans of live music will also find most major tours stopping in the region and a bustling music scene in smaller venues that has launched some of the country’s favourite bands.
The region is also a hotbed of sporting action, hosting two Premier League football teams, a Premier League Rugby team, an international test cricket ground, the world’s most popular half marathon The Great North Run among many others.
