Gold Medal Bake-Off
If baking was an Olympic sport then the staff and students at Sunderland College would win gold.
The college won first place in every category of a bake-off organised as part of last weekend’s Olympic Torch celebrations.
The college also won the overall Certificate of Appreciation prize in the Sunderland 2012 Bake-Off Competition that took part at Herrington County Park, Sunderland.
Staff and students got together to bake scones, short-bread, cup-cakes and a special Olympic and Paralympic themed cake.
Kathryn Shepherd, manager of The Lounge Bistro at Sunderland College, said: “We knew we had a winning team at the College, now we have the proof, picking up every award available. This is a fantastic achievement for our students.
“The bake-off was a fun way of working together, showcasing the students’ work and what we do here at the college.
“It was great fun and a really good day. Despite the drizzle lots of people turned out to create a real festival atmosphere.”
The Lounge Bistro is open to the public and supports more than 80 students training to be chefs, hospitality managers and front-of-house staff.
