Emerging Talent Contest gives students’ chance of a lifetime

A few tickets are still up for grabs for a Sunderland College Emerging Talent Contest which could give the winner the chance of a taste of stardom.

The free tickets for the event will go on a first come first served basis, with the winning band getting the chance to play at the North East’s biggest festival ‘Evolution’ in June.

Taking place on Wednesday, April 18, the contest has been arranged by Sunderland College in association with Generator, the UK’s leading music development agency.

The judging panel includes Barry Hyde from The Furtureheads and Tom Cotton, head of music at Amazing Radio.

The four bands, MoonRunners, Cohesion, Precious Few Heroes and The Real Davina, were selected to battle it out for a spot on one of the biggest stages in North East music after posting their music onto the college’s Facebook page.

The Real Davina is a five piece pop band who describe themselves as ‘soulfully extravagant’. Cohesion and Moonrunners are both four piece indie bands and Precious Few Heroes a five piece rock band from Washington.

The Evolution Festival takes place on Sunday, June 3 and Monday, June 4. This year’s headliners include Deadmau5 and Dizzee Rascal.

The final of the talent contest will be held at the college’s Shiney Row campus, Houghton-le-Spring.
